Chang Yi Releases Florence Price’s “Dances in the Canebrakes: I. Nimble Feet”
Taiwanese pianist Chang Yi releases a new single, “Dances in the Canebrakes: I. Nimble Feet,” the opening movement from Florence Price’s piano suite Dances in the Canebrakes.
A composer whose work has gained increasing recognition in recent decades, Florence Price brings together dance rhythm, clarity of gesture, and a distinctly American musical voice in this vivid miniature. “I. Nimble Feet” unfolds with brightness and momentum, combining elegance with lively rhythmic character.
In this recording, Chang Yi emphasizes both the lightness and precision of the writing, shaping the piece with a sense of balance between articulation and energy. As he notes, “The music carries a natural sense of motion and clarity, and I wanted the performance to reflect both its rhythmic vitality and its refinement.”
Issued by Manus Label, the release reflects the label’s focus on artist-led projects and repertoire shaped by distinctive compositional voices.
The single is now available on major streaming platforms.
